RESEARCH INTERN
Position Summary
Open to graduate students and juniors and seniors in college.
- The internship is full time, unpaid. Interns must arrange to receive college credit from their college or university.
- Academic interns are listed on the masthead as editorial assistants.
- Interns are relied upon to do professional, efficient work, mostly in story research, fact-checking, and planning. Interns are included in story-planning sessions and photo and layout reviews.
Responsibilities
- Pre-story research (fleshing out story ideas).
- Research and fact checking for the print magazine.
- Research, fact checking and writing for blog and website.
- Compiling information from our foreign editions.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Most successful candidates come to us with a journalism background or publication experience that involved reporting, such as on campus newspapers or magazines. Familiarity with journalistic writing conventions, such as handling attribution, is required.
Additional Information
The Web Internship is offered during the spring (January through May), summer (late May through August) and fall (September through December) semesters, to coincide with university schedules. School credit must be obtained for this internship, and there is no pay (except, of course, for the invaluable experience!). Please ask your academic advisor to verify that this internship would qualify for credit hours.
