WEB INTERN
Position Summary
National Geographic Traveler magazine is seeking an intern to assist with the production of the magazine’s website. Duties include programming pages for the site, sizing photographs, and assisting the online editor with various editorial tasks. Interns will gain an understanding of the way the photo, design, and editorial departments work together to produce the website and learn how the production process works.
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance to the online editor. These duties include creating XML documents, data input using HTML, and preparing photographic files for online usage.
- Copyedit and make changes to Web text.
- Help develop ideas for the website.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
A mature, organized, and enthusiastic undergraduate or graduate student studying journalism, new media, or other related major. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, acute attention to detail, and the ability to work independently is required. Computer savvy (knowledge of XML, HTML, and Photoshop), with no fear of learning new programs.
Additional Information
The Web Internship is offered during the spring (January through May), summer (late May through August) and fall (September through December) semesters, to coincide with university schedules. School credit must be obtained for this internship, and there is no pay (except, of course, for the invaluable experience!). Please ask your academic advisor to verify that this internship would qualify for credit hours.
