WEB DESIGN INTERN
Position Summary
National Geographic Traveler magazine is seeking an intern to assist with the design and production of the magazine's website. This hands-on internship offers terrific opportunities for creative thinking and tackling real-world projects. The intern will work closely with a talented and dedicated group of online editors, art directors, and picture editors to help develop content and produce the magazine's web edition for each issue.
Though the job requires some programming of pages, assisting with photo research/production, and creating photo galleries, the position can be tailored to meet the needs of specific areas of interest or expertise the intern may have, such as producing interactive graphics, video/multimedia production, UI/UE or developing blog content.
Responsibilities
- Provide support for the department staff. These duties include typing, data input using FileMakerPro, filing, photocopying, organizing files, and mailing and tracking packages.
- Assist with cataloguing, organizing, tracking and returning stock photo submissions and photo assignments.
- Assist with preparing files in Photoshop for the Traveler website.
- Assist with stock photo research on future story assignments.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
An organized and enthusiastic undergraduate or graduate student studying interactive design, digital media, photojournalism, or other related major. Excellent verbal/visual communication skills, acute attention to detail, and the ability to work independently is required. Knowledge of XML, HTML, CSS, Photoshop The ability to develop web videos or Flash interactives helpful, but not required.
Additional Information
The Web Internship is offered during the spring (January through May), summer (late May through August) and fall (September through December) semesters, to coincide with university schedules. School credit must be obtained for this internship, and there is no pay (except, of course, for the invaluable experience!). Please ask your academic advisor to verify that this internship would qualify for credit hours.
